How do you follow up after your students have an exciting debate? Here are some suggestions:

Reaction Papers

  • Write about the overall participation observed in the debate.

  • Write from a point of view not covered by the debate.

  • Refute the opposite side's arguments.
  • Prepare a Content Analysis. (written or via discussion)
  • Compare the topic of debate to a similar situation in the past or present.

  • Analyze your (or your team’s) arguments.

  • Analyze the opposing participant’s (or opposing team’s) arguments.

  • Identify and critique the main points each side presented.

Synthesis

  • Write a “self-improvement” list for future debates.

  • Synthesize the opposing views into “debate meeting notes”
